...brings 9 years of filmmaking and editing experience to the Fusion Films team.
Phil is one of those weird, driven souls who directed his first short film when he was 13. Since that time, he has continued making shorts and promos regularly. It was through the experience of writing, directing and editing his own films for the past nine years, that he has honed his skills as a film-maker, director and editor.
Recently, Phil has had his short films screened at various film festivals and cinemas including the Commonwealth Film Festival and at the BFI London IMAX Cinema. In 2005, Phil (with Chris Burton) won the National 48 Hour Film Challenge for the film “Swallowing It” which went on to be screened on BBC 2.
His first feature film, ‘The Women Of Troy’ won him Best Director for an International Feature at the New York Independant Film Festival. The film is now being internationally distributed on DVD.
As well as his numerous film projects, his work in many professional theatres as director and writer provided an invaluable insight into working with and directing actors.
After writing and directing a short film for BBC Manchester, Phil was noticed by a commercials production company based in Manchester. His first commercial won him a Roses Advertising Award in 2004 for ‘Best TV Commercial produced under 25k’ and has since won five more awards at the 2005 Fresh Advertising Awards for another, including a Gold Grand Prix award. Clients include Nike, NSPCC, MUTV and the World Wildlife Fund.
Phil took time out in 2006 to direct the 11th series of the popular car show "5th Gear". He spent 2007 on location in Oxford directing the forthcoming Philip Pullman feature film, "The Butterfly Tattoo".
As well as directing for Fusion Films, Phil continues to be a freelance commercials director. His invaluable directing experience in commercials and storytelling is a key part of Fusion Films production.
He lives in Manchester in a small box with a fish, DVD player and a cardboard cut out of Hitchcock.
