It's been said that sheds are to the male species what handbags are to females. A place to escape, a space to store secrets. Just as no self respecting man should ever look in a ladies handbag uninvited, women should never venture into the world of a man's shed without permission.
In 2006 we spent a staggering £85 million on these curiously compelling structures. Over half the UK population now own a shed and one in ten of us have bought one in the last 12 months - but it's not just elderly pipe smoking gents slipping away for a quiet smoke who are taking an interest in the humble garden hideaway - we enter the world of some true British eccentrics.
Shed Life is a quirky look at some men whose sheds are their passion - from homes for wacky inventions to replica pubs and cinemas we meet and interview not just the host of the wooden structure, but also the often long suffering spouse and family members.
'Shed Life' opens with the most unusual band we've ever been fortunate enough to meet, complete with kazoo and oboe and with a combined age of over 250 years, performing (in a shed of course) over the opening titles before we go out to explore out other great British characters.
Creatively shot on Digital Betacam, we have a well researched and often witty study of what makes these characters tick, and why those close to them put up with it!
A full broadcast spec pilot is due to be completed in February 2008, interested broadcasters should register an interest now. |
