Bolton TIC is the UK’s first ever junior incubator for science. It’s a cross between a college, a research laboratory and it’s inspiring a new generation of scientists.

Bolton TIC is the vision of Paul Abbott, who wanted to provide an experience for children whereby they could learn about science and engineering by practising it first-hand. In this DVD, Robbie the rocket scientist teaches students from the local area how to build a rocket, launched with approval from the Ministry of Defence. We see the benefits of computer aided design, model aircraft making and how to create a product from design to completion. Pupils and staff from local schools talk about how the TIC is helping to give young students confidence and shaping our future innovators.

The TIC’s staff offer expert tuition to pupils from Bolton and beyond, and this DVD shows how they cater for pupils from all backgrounds, male and female. The TIC has access for wheelchair users and a comprehensive training schedule, with computer aided design and 3D technology. With a lecture theatre, sea of computers, scientific manufacturing equipment and staff who know how to communicate with the younger generation, this film is a great insight into a centre of innovation.

Fusion completed the project from script to screen in just 6 weeks and worked with the TIC on very short notice to organise shoot days. The project was shot on a variety of formats, from high end Super 16mm timelapse to Digi Beta - in total 7 shoot days were allocated to get the necessary coverage of the centre.
